Some facts about orgasms in honor of national orgasm day

I missed National Orgasm Day! Apparently, July 31st is National Orgasm Day. I really would love to know whose job it is to come up with these days.

So, this post is in honor of the day. Here are some fun orgasm facts. Know that no matter how you identify, or who you are, you deserve to to have an orgasm. It is good for your health. It keeps your pelvic floor muscles and organs healthy and has many emotional/mental benefits. If you recently had a baby or are postmenopausal, be sure to use lubricant to help achieve an orgasm.

Some fun orgasm facts:

  • At least 75% of people who have a vagina need some form of clitoral stimulation to have an orgasm.

  • 10% of people who have a vagina report never experiencing an orgasm.

  • Bisexual women are 66% likely to report an orgasm when they are sexually intimate.

  • Heterosexual women are 65% likely to report having an orgasm with sexual activity.

  • Research shows that in order for people who have a vagina to have an orgasm with penile-vagina intercourse, they need to have a certain anatomy. People who reported easier orgasms from penile penetration were more likely to have a clitoris closer to their vaginal opening.

  • How you feel about yourself has been shown to be linked to the quality of your orgasm (LOVE your body- ALL of it!)

  • There is a lot of difference in the amount of time it takes for a person to be aroused.

  • Some people take 30 minutes to an hour before they are able to reach their peak in arousal.

  • The average time to orgasm for people with a clitoris is 13 minutes and 25 seconds (very precise!)

  • The average time to orgasm for people with a penis is 6 minutes.

  • Men who ejaculated 21 or more times per month dropped their risk of prostate cancer by 19%.

  • For someone with a healthy pelvic floor, having an orgasm causes your pelvic floor muscles to completely contract and then completely relax. (Aka, it is exercise for your pelvic floor muscles, which keeps them healthy!).

If you are unable to have intercourse due to pain or discomfort, a pelvic floor physical therapist can help you. Sex is an act of daily living and affects all aspects of your life (physical, mental, emotional). You deserve to enjoy having sex.
