FAQ’s

I’m considering becoming a patient and I have a question:

  • During the first visit, the doctors will spend significant time getting to know you. She wants to understand your concerns, goals, and lifestyle. She will provide education on normal anatomy using models and pictures as needed and thoroughly explain her examination strategies. If you are comfortable, she will perform a complete examination to determine areas of muscular imbalance, postural deficits, and faulty movement patterns. This often includes hands-on muscle testing, measurement of joint motion, observation of movements, and sometimes, an internal examination of the pelvic floor region. The doctor will explain her examination findings throughout the evaluation and you will discuss treatment options together. The first visit typically involves significant education on normal anatomy, the findings of your examination and ways to change movement patterns. You will likely be prescribed a home exercise program and receive hands on treatment at your first session. You should notice a difference in your symptoms after the first session.

  • Part of the doctor’s job is to make you feel comfortable. She wants you to feel seen and heard and will only do what you are comfortable with. While she will tell you what she recommends, your treatment is 100% in your control and you can tell her to change what she is doing at anytime. Her goal is to help you feel better and the only way to do that is by honoring your wishes.

  • The doctors welcome children, partners and family members to attend appointments as desired and needed by the patient.

  • Yes! When you schedule an evaluation you will automatically be sent your log-in information through Embodia. Please fill out the forms linked in that email at least 24 hours before your appointment. The information that we are asking for is deeply personal and your privacy is of utmost importance to us. All of our software and electronic medical records are HIPAA compliant.

  • It is important that you are comfortable during your visits. Typically, athletic attire such as stretchy pants and a t-shirt is helpful, but not required. The doctor may ask you to undress and use a sheet to cover up so that she can adequately visualize and access the area she is treating.

I’ve scheduled my first appointment, what should I expect now?

After your initial visit, you can anticipate several follow-up steps to support your journey towards feeling better:

  • Following your first session, we will provide you with personalized home exercises and self-treatment techniques tailored to your specific needs. These exercises are designed to complement the hands-on treatment received during your appointment and aid in your recovery process.

  • Typically scheduled for one week after your initial visit, your follow-up appointment serves as an opportunity to assess the effectiveness of the treatment plan and make any necessary modifications. Your therapist will evaluate your progress, address any concerns or questions you may have, and adjust your treatment plan as needed to ensure optimal outcomes.

  • During your follow-up appointment, your therapist will discuss the recommended frequency of subsequent visits and provide an estimated duration of treatment based on your individual condition and treatment goals. This information will help you plan and commit to your rehabilitation journey effectively.

  • Throughout your treatment process, you can expect ongoing education about your condition, treatment options, and strategies for maintaining your progress. Your therapist will empower you with knowledge and resources to better understand your body and actively participate in your recovery.

  • We understand that questions or concerns can come up between appointments. Therefore, you will have access to your physical therapist via messaging to address those issues. This ensures continuous support and guidance throughout your journey.

I’m already a patient and I have a question:

  • Internal assessment and treatment can still be performed during a menstrual cycle if you are comfortable with this option. If so, the doctor will utilize chucks pads on the treatment table and provide you with wipes after the treatment. If you are not comfortable with internal work, the doctor will focus on external surrounding areas such as the hips, lower back, abdomen and pelvis. You may also cancel your appointment and reschedule for a later date through the PTEverywhere app (https://app.pteverywhere.com/insightpelvichealth.com).
