The reality after having a baby

Most people are led to believe that after having a baby you can take 6 weeks off and then go back to everything in life like nothing ever happened. But you and I both know that you might not feel strong, like yourself, or maybe there’s pain. The truth is, you need to rebirth your body. You just birthed a baby and have crazy hormones which is the perfect time to rebuild the foundation of your body that you can use for the rest of your life. That’s what will get you feeling like a whole person who is empowered to take on the world!

You just spent 9 months creating another human! You, your body! That is INCREDIBLE!! Then, at the end of 9 months you basically performed a marathon; you birthed your baby. You now have this incredible human to take care of. But what happened to your body?

The extra hormones, hair, tissue, and skin do not all just go back the minute your baby is born. No, your body needs about 9 months to go back to how it was prior to having your baby and even then, it might take longer due to breastfeeding and new demands on your body.

It is important that you give yourself time to rebuild your body after you have your baby. Think of this time as rebirthing your body. You just birthed your baby, so why not rebirth your body?

It is important that you REST, REST, and REST some more after having your baby. Then you want to start basic, foundational exercises the first week after you performed your marathon so that you can live pain and leak free for the rest of your life! You want to slowly increase the challenge of the exercises over the next 6 weeks. Then, once you hit the 6 week postpartum mark, you can begin to progress the exercises even more. Once you get to the 12 week postpartum mark, the hormone, relaxin, is mostly out of your joints and if you have taken this time to build a strong foundation, then you should be all set to return to all the exercises you want.
