Why I am Seeing a Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist
I have been a licensed physical therapist for almost 7 years. I got into pelvic floor physical therapy during school so I have been learning about it and practicing it for over 8 years. Part of my job as a Doctor of Physical Therapy is to educate people about what they can do to take control of their health and how they can treat themselves. I am currently pregnant with my second child and so glad that I found a pelvic floor physical therapist for myself. There are some things you can’t treat yourself and it’s nice to have another set of eyes on you to know what you should or should not be doing.
I am going on my 32nd week of pregnancy and I have been having some discomfort in my pelvis and lower abdomen, as well has having the good old pregnancy hemorrhoids and pain with sex. I was unable to get into a pelvic floor physical therapist until this week because of long waitlists and so few therapists in the area. I was lucky to have been treated by a couple of massage therapists who relieved my symptoms for a day but then my pain came back making it hard for me to work. I am excited to start physical therapy to have someone analyze my movements, posture, and daily habits, while also performing hands on treatment, and to remind me of what exercises I should be performing and how to treat myself.
Obviously not everyone needs a pelvic floor physical therapist, but if you are suffering from any pain or discomfort causing you to be restricted in participating in activities you want to do, I would recommend contacting a therapist near you.
