Our bodies are made to have babies

Our bodies are made to have babies, so why do we have to do all this extra stuff to prepare for labor?

The main answer: our current lifestyle.

Back in the day, people did not sit around most of the day doing computer work, or watching TV, or lounging on a couch, or driving in a car. People were moving! They were gathering their food for their next meal. They were riding a horse to pick something up in town 10 miles away. They were walking to get their water. Whether they were pregnant or not, people were MOVING!

Our modern lifestyle, with all the luxuries it offers, also offers more time for resting and relaxing. I am not saying this is bad, this is just not what our bodies were made to do. Because of this, we need to make specific time to exercise to keep our bodies healthy. We also need to be mindful of how we stand and sit. This is especially true during pregnancy.

During pregnancy, our bodies go through some incredible changes to be able to create a human! Due to the changes, it is important that we are mindful of how we stand, sit, and overall move to prevent pain and the baby getting “stuck” coming out of us.

If you are pregnant, try to sit up on your sit bones and not on your tailbone. Sitting on your tailbone will close off your pelvic floor and cause those muscles to sit in a shortened position.

When you stand, you want to stand with your ears over your shoulders and use your lower abdomen to pull your belly in. Rather than “sticking you butt out”, which is a very common pregnancy stance, you want to gently contract your glutes so your hips are under your shoulders. This will decrease stress on your low back to help decrease back pain.

These positions should not cause ANY pain. They should feel good.

Try this and let me know if you have any questions!
