Your body is smart!
I recently had a client who has not felt “right” for over 7 years. She has seen multiple medical professionals and no one has given her answers.
She had a baby over a year ago and felt pretty good after having her baby. Then, BAM, about a month postpartum she was hit hard with new symptoms. She had uncontrollable shakes. She would shake so much that she couldn’t hold her baby. She would get lightheaded anytime she sat down. Lying on her back could also make her dizzy. It was hard for her to find a comfortable position to be in. Her husband had to quit his job to help take care of her and their new baby.
She ended up in the emergency room one day because she just did not feel right. She felt like her symptoms were coming from her pelvis and thought that she might have a prolapse (when the organs start to fall down). The doctors in the emergency room told her it was impossible for her to have a prolapse (REALLY??!?! She just had a baby! How is that impossible?)
Most of her western medicine physicians told her that it was in her head and she should move on. She didn’t accept their answers. She just knew that something was wrong. She advocated for herself. She knew that something was not right in her body.
She thought that if she had a prolapse, maybe seeing a pelvic floor physical therapist could help. She found me.
When she came to me, I was able to reproduce her symptoms. I was excited because theoretically, if I was able to reproduce her symptoms, then I should be able to help her get rid of her symptoms.
Then she had a new symptom, bleeding that was not from her period. Again, she knew this just was not right. She expressed her concern to me. I heard her concern. Being a medical professional, my thought was, “Maybe it is just spotting between periods. After having a baby, your uterus can get fatigued causing abnormal periods.” She listened, but didn’t think that my thought fit what was going on.
I listened to her listening to her body. If she thought that my answer didn’t fit what was going on her her body, she probably was right. At the end of the day, the person who knows your body best, is YOU!
I recommended that she get a test that would show what her insides look like. Sure enough, something came up on the test to show that there was something on her uterus. That “something”, is likely what is causing her symptoms. Is that “something” also what has been causing her symptoms for the past 7 years? Maybe. But it is one step closer to solving why she has not felt “right”.
Listen to your body. You know your body best. Do not accept an answer just because it is what the doctor said. We learn from books. You are not a book. Be an advocate for yourself and don’t give up until you find an answer that feels right to you.
